Aims:

To campaign for homeless people in Scotland.
Millions of people in Britain wake up every day in housing that is run-down, overcrowded or dangerous. Many others have lost their home altogether. Bad housing robs people of security, health and a fair chance in life. Shelter believes everyone should have a home.

Services provided:

  • Shelter provides a free, national telephone advice line staffed by trained housing advisers. Lines are open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The telephone helpline provides an initial level of information, advocacy and advice. People requiring more in-depth assistance or ongoing casework can be referred to local specialist services (tel: 0808 800 4444 )
  • Run local services are in East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and North Lanarkshire
  • Shelter Scotland is the co-ordinator of the Scottish Housing Law Service, and also of the Scottish Homelessness Advisory Service which provides a backup service to Citizens Advice Bureaux
  • Campaign team conducts research, provides policy briefings, and develops projects to benefit people who are homeless or badly housed
  • Run Families Projects in Edinburgh, Lanarkshire and Glasgow that help homeless families to settle back into the community
