Welcome to Disability Information Scotland’s training page

We offer training courses designed to help you ensure your online information is accessible to everyone.


Accessibility Awareness

This is a self-study course. It will give you a good understanding of how information is accessed by people with disabilities, and general advice about online content accessibility.

The course looks at:

  • Why it is important for your online content to be accessible
  • Accessibility for people with sensory disabilities
  • Accessibility for people with physical disabilities
  • Accessibility for people with learning disabilities
  • Accessibility for people with cognitive disabilities and learning difficulties
  • The WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 4 stage model for ensuring your information is as accessible as possible
  • Further reading

You’ll receive a certificate when you have completed the course. You can book your place through the link at the top of this page.

Accessible Word Documents

A short focused course detailing how to produce accessible Microsoft Word documents.  While this course uses and focuses on Microsoft’s word processing application the strategies discussed can be applied to any other office software applications.

By the end of the course learners will have a better understanding of:

  • The need for accessible content
  • The strategies which can be utilised when producing digital documents to ensure that they are as accessible as possible

This course is instructor-led via Zoom, Teams or in person.

This course is for anyone involved on producing digital office documents who wishes to gain an understanding of the importance of ensuring that their documents are as accessible as possible.

Course length: 90 minutes


Accessible Social Media

A short course detailing how to produce accessible social media content.

By the end of the course learners will have a better understanding of:

  • The growth of social media
  • The need for accessible social media content
  • The strategies which can be employed to ensure content is accessible

This course is instructor-led via Zoom, Teams or in person

  • Alt-text
  • Captions
  • Language constraints
  • Accessible colours
  • Accessible visuals

This course is for anyone producing social media content who wishes to ensure that their content is as accessible as possible
