Nationwide audio description service for partially sighted and blind people

Aims:

VocalEyes provides opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to experience the arts at UK theatres, museums, galleries and heritage sites. We also work with the arts and heritage sector to create these opportunities and welcome blind and partially sighted people as a core audience.

Services provided:

VocalEyes is a registered charity that supports visually impaired people by:

  • Providing live audio description at theatres, using live verbal commentary relayed over headsets to audience members
  • Scripting and delivery of live audio-descriptive tours of exhibitions, galleries or venues, with handling sessions
  • Scripting and production of recorded audio-description for a galleries and venues, including advising on accessible handsets and other equipment
  • Producing a What’s on listing of accessible theatre, museum arts and heritage events, available in a range of formats (large print, braille, audio and email)
  • Training museum staff to develop and deliver live descriptive tours
  • Delivering visual awareness and guiding training to venue staff
  • Conducting audits of current access provision for blind and partially sighted visitors (visitor experience, online and programmed events)
  • Running audience advocacy sessions (reaching and growing blind and partially sighted audiences)
  • Hosting inclusive design workshops
