Summary:
The UK Safer Internet Centre delivers a wide range of activity to promote the safe and responsible use of technology:
Safer Internet Day will be held on to 11th February 2020.
- founded and operates an award-winning esafety helpline for professionals working with children in the UK;
- operates the UK’s hotline for reporting online criminal content;

coordinates Safer Internet Day in the UK, which see thousands of organisations, schools and individuals get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

develops new educational and awareness raising resources for children, parents and carers and teachers to meet emerging trends in the fast-changing online environment. Resources include focusing on early years, sexting, and ‘how to’ video guides on using parental controls on internet-connected devices;
- develops self-assessment tools for schools and other settings to evaluate their esafety provision, including policy development;
- delivers education sessions for children, parents, carers and teachers in schools and other settings, reaching over 30,000 every year;
- hosts the UKCCIS Evidence Group’s Research Highlight series, which summarises key academic publications on children and the internet;
- shapes policy at school, industry and government level, both in the UK and internationally;
- facilitates youth panels to give young people a voice on these issues;
- contributes to and commission academic research into children’s media use;
- works in partnership with others in the UK and globally – the Centre’s resources are used in many countries worldwide;
- continues to develop the UK Safer Internet Centre website as a hub for information and advice, to reflect the range of work taking place across the UK.
