The guidelines include details of the types of projects and services you can apply for funding towards and details of what we do not fund.  It is important to note that these details are different for each programme so please read the guidelines thoroughly before making your application.

Main Grants Programme – Revenue Grants

Their Main Grants Programme is for Revenue grants of £10,000 a year and over.  Grants can be for up to three years for things like running costs (including salaries and overheads), or the running costs of a specific project (including staffing costs). Please note that we are unlikely to make grants to organisations with income of  £5million or above.

County Grants Programme

Their County Grants Programme supports the work of small organisations and charities in eight counties with which the Henry Smith Charity has a historical connection. The eight counties are Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Kent, Leicestershire, Suffolk, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex. To be eligible to apply for a County Grant, your organisation’s annual income must be below £250,000, unless you are working county-wide, in which case your income must be below £1 million.

Small Grants in the North East of England

Our Small Grants Programme will operate in the North East of England for three years from 2014.  Applications cannot be made direct to The Henry Smith Charity for these grants.  Please contact the Community Foundation for Tyne & Wear and Northumberland for further details.

Holiday Grants for Children
One off grants of up to £2,500 for organisations, schools, youth groups etc specifically for holidays or outings for children under the age of 13 who are disabled or who live in areas of high deprivation.
Please note that this programme has specific deadlines linked to the date of your holiday.

Christian Projects

The Will of Henry Smith included a requirement to fund work which explicitly promotes the Christian faith.  We generally support projects that come from a Church of England context and closely fit our four priority areas for the Christian Projects Grants Programme.  Please note we are only able to fund work which promotes faith under the Christian Projects Grants Programme.  All our other programmes will not fund any work which includes the promotion of religion.

Kindred Grants

These grants are for Kindred of Henry Smith.
