Services provided:

  • Hold the register of people registered as blind or partially sighted for Aberdeen City, Moray and Dundee
  • Offer a social work service for people with a sensory loss and a mobility and rehabilitation service for people who are blind or visually impaired to enable people to increase their independence and safety as well as supporting people to access benefits and services from other organisations
  • Resource Centres in Aberdeen, Elgin and Dundee display daily living aids and equipment, and staff provide information, advice and support with regards to other daily living aids
  • Hospital Information service supports people at the point of diagnosis to come to terms with situation and identify appropriate support.  Based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Eye Clinic with visits to Audiology and other specialist clinics
  • Young Person’s Sensory Services provides support to children and young people who have a sensory loss, along with their families, from birth to 19th birthday by organising activities to improve confidence, social and life skills
  • Employment support service available in Aberdeen and Dundee
  • Connect-inform-support service in Aberdeen and Moray supports older people over 65 to reduce social isolation by organising groups, talks, activities, outings and trips.  Transport is provided
  • Provides specialist information, advice and training for people to learn to use assistive technology including computers and tablets
  • Staff and volunteers co-ordinate social and activity groups throughout Aberdeen and Moray
  • Audio library with large collection of audio books on CD and USB, some still on cassette
  • Produced audio magazines of local news for people who use our services
  • Transcription services transcribe information into audio, Braille, BSL DVD
  • Provide BSL – English interpreter booking service
  • Provide sensory awareness training to raise awareness of the needs of people with a sensory loss
  • Delivers sensory awareness training to raise awareness of the needs of people living with a sensory loss.
