Working to make streets and public spaces safe and accessible

Aims:

To create streets and public spaces that people on foot can use and enjoy.

Services provided:

  • Helps individuals, community groups and local authorities take action to make their local communities walkable i.e. safe, attractive and accessible for people on foot
  • Raises awareness of the importance of clean, safe and attractive public spaces for community life
  • Promotes good practice through publications, events and the WalkFirst network of local authorities
  • Empowers the public through advice and information
  • Co-ordinates a network of volunteers who take action to improve their street environment
  • Provide help and advice to people who are having problems due to dirty and dangerous environments.
  • Delivers projects working with older people and communities focuses on the pedestrian environment

  •  Campaign on issues including footway parking and obstructed pavements
