Access to Elected Office Fund

Providing financial support for disabled people standing in Local Authority and Scottish Parliament elections to address impairment-related barriers and disadvantages.

Services provided:

The Access to Elected Office Fund Scotland has been set up to offer financial assistance to disabled people who are seeking selection or have already been selected to stand in Local Authority and Scottish Parliament elections, including by-elections (unfortunately we remain unable to support candidates for Westminster / UK Parliament elections due to reserved legislation.) The Fund pays for practical support that can enable disabled people to fully participate in the political process. This covers “reasonable adjustments” that level the playing field between disabled and non-disabled candidates, but not general campaign costs. This Access to Elected Office fund is administered by Inclusion Scotland, and funded by the Scottish Government.

Inclusion Scotland also offers an Access to Politics advice and support service for disabled people. This advises disabled individuals on how to participate more fully in politics, and can also advise political parties and organisations about how they can be inclusive to disabled members.
