1.2 Why is it necessary to produce accessible information?

Accessible information and communication is important for several reasons:

  • Access to information and services impacts directly on the quality of everyday life of many disabled people, their families and carers. Most people take for granted the ability to go about their daily lives without experiencing barriers; the same may not always be the case for disabled people and other groups.
  • It is good practice in terms of service delivery to strive to meet people’s individual needs.
  • It can help build stronger relationships between service users and providers
  • Providing information in a range of accessible formats can remove some potential areas for complaint. It’s the Law Equality Act 2010. See Section 4 Accessible Information in Context.
