Aims:
- To serve as a national umbrella organisation made up of national, regional and local groups and organisations run and controlled by disabled people
- To unite the voice of disabled people in the UK and to provide a forum for discussion and action by all disabled people on any issues affecting them
- To encourage and support links between new and existing groups of disabled people.

United Kingdom’s Disabled People’s Council is seen as the disabled people’s movement in Britain and are recognised by the United Nations through membership of the world disabled people’s movement; Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI).
- Co-ordinate an information line
- Operate an information centre which collates and distributes information about the activities of other member groups within the disability movement.
