Previously known as British Council of Disabled People.

Aims:

  • To serve as a national umbrella organisation made up of national, regional and local groups and organisations run and controlled by disabled people
  • To unite the voice of disabled people in the UK and to provide a forum for discussion and action by all disabled people on any issues affecting them
  • To encourage and support links between new and existing groups of disabled people.

services provided:

United Kingdom’s Disabled People’s Council is seen as the disabled people’s movement in Britain and are recognised by the United Nations through membership of the world disabled people’s movement; Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI).

  • Co-ordinate an information line
  • Operate an information centre which collates and distributes information about the activities of other member groups within the disability movement.
