UK Athletics

Promotes the development of athletics and administers the lottery funded paralympic world class performance programme

Aims:

To be responsible for the management of the World Class Performance Plan for able bodied and disabled athletes.

Services provided:

The World Class Performance Plan helps disabled athletes in the following ways:
By providing opportunities for experienced ex-athletes to move into coaching and for the coaches of athletes to develop their knowledge base and hence the quality of the coaching they deliver. The intention is to utilise appropriate expertise from whatever quarter, either within the UK or internationally. It is intended that this will be achieved by a number of initiatives;

  • fast track for athletes
  • coaching mentors
  • master classes
  • best practice

At a national level, the World Class programme will be delivered on a sports-specific basis. There are four event groups;

  • ambulant sprints
  • ambulant endurance
  • field (seated and ambulant)
  • wheelchair racing

The programme for each will be the responsibility of an event group co-ordinator appointed by UKA It is intended that each programme will support and complement each athlete’s own personal annual training and competition programme.

Specialist preparation programmes are also included.
