Support people with complex needs to live in their own homes in the community

Aims:

To support people with complex needs to live in their own homes in the community.

Services provided:

Support is available in two ways:
At a number of sites in central Edinburgh, clients share a team of staff based in an adjacent staff flat. This model provides:

  • Staff available 24 hours a day to be used flexibly when required
  • Privacy not to have staff in the person’s home when they do not wish them to be there
  • Guarantee that staff, who have been selected by the person Freespace support, will be familiar with their routines, always available and trained to a high standard
  • Waking night staff available every night.

Support is also available to people who already have their own homes. This is provided on a one to one basis and according to the amount of time required by each individual. This model of support may be more appropriate for people who have severe brain injuries or who have learning difficulties, as well as physical disabilities.
