Edinburgh Childcare 4 All

Support the inclusion of children with additional support needs into mainstream childcare settings

To support the inclusion of children from 0-12 years with additional support needs into mainstream childcare settings such as nurseries, after school clubs and playshemes, in Edinburgh.

Services provided:

Childcare 4 All work alongside Staff in mainstream childcare settings, including private and local authority nurseries, school clubs, holiday clubs, playgroups and child-minder’s in order to develop their capacity to include children with additional support needs within their services. This support includes practical assistance, and advice on how to provide a service that can be enjoyed by all children.

Additionally Child Care 4 All offers a free lending library of toys and therapeutic resources, encouraging children with additional support needs to get involved and build relationships with other children.

Many of the children who use the Childcare 4 All service have challenging behaviour and Capability Scotland works with families to help them develop strategies for dealing with this  and promoting positive behaviour. Parents also welcome the support as in many cases they have been struggling to cope and need help regaining confidence in their parenting skills.

Children can be referred to Childcare 4 All by professionals, parents or the setting themselves. Any registered Childcare Provider can contact the service directly for advice, support or to borrow resources to enable them to be more inclusive.
