Holidays to Orlando in America for children who have a serious illness or disability

Aims:

To take children with a serious illness and / or disability on their ‘holiday of a lifetime’ to the theme parks at central Florida.

Services provided:

Dreamflight is a registered UK charity whose purpose is to send children with a serious illness or disability on their ‘holiday of a lifetime’ to Florida. While many charities devote their energies to funding long term research projects or the purchase of medical equipment, Dreamflight think it is just as important to bring some fun and joy into the lives of children who perhaps can’t wait long enough for the breakthrough they need or whose illnesses and treatments have brought pain distress and disruption to their lives.

Each October Dreamflight charter a Boeing 747 and take 192 children to Orlando for a 10 day holiday. The children are aged between 8 – 14.
A full medical team accompanies the children.

While in America each child is accompanied on a one to one basis from 7.00am – 9.00pm. Thereafter, a night shift of nurses takes over to look after those children who require attention during the night.

Each year 32 Scottish children are included in the holiday – one group from Glasgow and one from Edinburgh.
