More than 100,000 people have already benefited from CWAS’s operation since the charity formally launched in 2018. CWAS provides c.32,000 free-of-charge rides every year for people contending with mobility issues, other disabilities, loneliness and/or isolation. They can be of any age, though the
majority of CWAS’s beneficiaries are older people. Growing from five of its pioneering Trishaws in 2018 to now 150, and from one branch (aka “Chapter”) to 100, CWAS is currently active in 28 of Scotland’s 32 Local Authorities. CWAS now benefits around 45,000 passengers every year and provides unique fulfilment and camaraderie to its volunteers (Trishaw riders and other roles), whose ages range from teens to 80s. More than 2,000 volunteers have engaged with CWAS to date. Through the invaluable contribution it makes to accessible tourism – the improved accessibility of Scotland’s iconic visitor sites – CWAS supports local and national economies.
