Corseford Short Breaks Respite Service- Capability Scotland

Overnight respite and day services for 5-21 years with complex health and social support needs.

Corseford Short Breaks offers respite and day services for children and young people aged 5-21, with complex additional health and social support needs. They aim to support children and young people to have a fun and meaningful experience with their peers, away from home.

The service is provided in beautiful grounds in Kilbarchan- 15 miles from Glasgow City Centre and 60 miles from Edinburgh. It is close to public transport links while still giving the feeling of being in the country.

services provided:

  • Overnight respite for up to 4 young people at a time
  • Day Services for up to 6 young people
  • After School Club and Holiday Club
  • Flexibility in respite hours
  • 1:1 support where required

Therapies include Rebound Therapy, Sensory Theatre and Hydro Therapy.There is wide range of activities to choose from such as arts and crafts, soft play, baking, pamper sessions, themed and outdoor activities, indoor games, reading and playing with toys. Staff have access to a mini bus and will take young people on outings to the cinema, 10 pin bowling, adapted bike riding, speedboating and on country walks.If a young person wants to have a bit of quiet chill time, that can be provided too.

  • Outdoor play areas, enclosed patio, sensory areas and paths

personalised care:

The centre provides personalised individual care plans, created with the young person and their parents/carers to reflect their unique health and social support needs. Support staff are highly trained to meet young peoples needs. They are trained in enteral feeding, medication administration, breathing management, personal care, mealtime assistance and child & adult protection. They are also trained in communication methods such as Augmentative Alternative communication, including eye- gaze, Podd Books,electronic and low tech communication methods.  

Coresford Short Breaks also seeks advice and guidance from the on-site medical staff in the attached Corseford School.
