Services provided:

CERES works with the Government, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, local authorities(education), schools, teachers, parents, organisations and individuals to promote race equality by:

  • Supporting education authorities on the development and implementation of multicultural / anti-racist education and the challenging of personal, cultural and institutional racism
  • Providing advice on taking forward the General and Specific Duties of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000
  • Providing advice to government, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education, national organisations and (advisory) bodies on progressing multicultural / anti-racist perspectives and practice through course/curriculum design and structure, with a view to minimising racial discrimination in education
  • Identifying, reporting upon and collating, as required, significant research and development activities relating to racial equality in education
    identifying issues or matters of concern regarding racial equality to the education community in Scotland and to promote appropriate responses
    collating and producing, when required, resources for the training of education practitioners in the different sectors in race equality
    promoting the maintenance of community languages and the support of bilingualism
  • Developing and maintaining a website which encourages and facilitate networking in the field of racial equality in education
    linking race equality work within the wider equalities and human rights framework
