Aims:

  • Develop an information centre as a resource for the deaf and hard of hearing.

  • Provide informal support through meetings, telephone, SMS text and email. 

  • Raise public awareness of deafness and the difficulties experienced by people with hearing impairments.       .

Services provided:

Borders Deaf & Hard of Hearing Network meet regularly to discuss issues that affect the deaf and hard of hearing; for example, the availability of loop systems and visual fire alarms in public buildings, making sure information is provided in plain English.

The Resource Centre at The Hive is open for a drop-in on Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 10am-12noon where you can try out telephones with amplifiers, vibrating alarm clocks, TV listening aids, visual/chiming doorbells and much more.

These items can be borrowed free for two weeks on a trial home loan service.  This allows you to make sure that the item of equipment is suitable prior to purchase.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10.00am – 12.00pm.
