Disability Information Scotland
We have been pretty quiet over the last wee while, so we thought we could give you an overview of what’s been happening!
Here at Disability Information Scotland our mission is to provide reliable, accurate and accessible information throughout Scotland. We want to ensure that disability information is accessible to all and has a positive impact on the lives of disabled people and the people who support them. We provide information in the way people would like it to be provided.
We are a small team and there’s a few new faces here since we last spoke so we thought we would re-introduce ourselves and what we all do!
Lauren – is our Chief Officer and oversees all the work we do here and makes sure everything runs smoothly.
Irene- is our Information Coordinator, she looks after our guides and directory on the website as well as answering enquiries on our information line.
Lisa – is our Information Line Advisor and spends her time answering enquiries (across a variety of formats) and getting information for people.
James – is our Accessible Information Officer and creates and delivers our training materials and courses.
Kya – is our Business Support Assistant and helps keep on top of admin processes behind the scenes.
All of our staff and passionate about what we do here and between us we possess a wide variety of experience, knowledge and expertise. We all work under the guidance of our dedicated board who govern the organisations between their shared expertise. We also have support of our wonderful volunteers who help out with a variety of jobs (like writing this newsletter!).
We have a number of information services available;
Our Information Line is available 10am-3pm, Monday-Friday. One of our friendly and knowledgeable advisors can help you navigate through all the information online and find the help or information you actually need. Whether it be a query about a blue badge application process or information on what your rights are, we can help you find the right info or the right organisation to help you. You can get in contact with our Information Line via phone, text, email or through the contact form on our website.
Our website has a searchable directory available to show you other organisations, Â what they specialise in and how to contact them. The directory is fully searchable and updated regularly. Our information guides can provide you with a comprehensive breakdown on a specific topic (whether it be funding grants for equipment or the different types of benefits in Scotland) and tell you where further information is available on these topics.
Our accessible information training aims to teach both individuals and organisations about how to produce materials – like websites or word documents- that are easy for everybody to use online. We run training sessions online, in person, at conferences or for small groups and our course is CPD accredited. If you would like to make a booking for this just get in touch! You can also access an eLearning module on Accessible Information for free via our website.
