Provide a service for people with communication disabilities

To provide services and carry out research and development projects across Scotland working with all those involved in meeting the needs of people who require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and / or specialised technology use, particularly in education.

Services provided:

  • An assessment and support service for a small number of children with complex communication, physical and learning needs who might benefit from information and communication technology. Children are referred through education authority channels
  • Provides information and advice in response to general enquiries on communication technology for people with disabilities
  • Maintains an open-access reference library of books, journals and videos which can be consulted by arrangement
  • Maintains a website which is a source of substantial information
  • Loan of specialist equipment for communication and learning to allow for extended assessment and evaluation of a device or system before purchase
  • Training and staff development opportunities relevant to people working with children and adults
  • Various research projects underway.
