Forth and Clyde Canal cruises

Wheelchair accessible boats providing canal cruise outings for people with special needs.
There are two boats, Yarrow Seagull and Marjorie Seagull. The boats cruise through woods and farmland, where wildlife such as kingfishers, heron, ducks and swans can be seen. The length of the Forth and Clyde Canal cruised from Kirkintilloch is well used and allows the boats to cruise westerly to Cadder near Bishopbriggs. Passengers have to provide their own transport to the boats.
ACCOMMODATION:
The Kirkintilloch Marina provides secure docking for the Yarrow Seagull and Marjorie Seagull with toilet facilities and a car park. Located inside the marina buildings is a lounge area which is available for passengers to wait in comfort before or after their cruise. A ramp leads to the boarding pontoon and each boat has a wheelchair lift to enable guests to board the canal boats. Each boat can take up to twelve passengers including carers and has capacity for four wheelchairs within the total of twelve.

Directions: From Townhead in the centre of Kirkintilloch turn into Southbank Road, Southbank Drive and Strathkelvin Place until you come to the newly constructed Southbank Marina (next to the Police Station).
Cruising takes place from April to October each year with the boats being crewed from a pool of unpaid volunteers. All skippers hold the RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman’s certificate and are assisted by trained crew. The boats sail twice each day, at 11.00 and 13.30 hours Monday to Friday, with each trip lasting about two hours. We can also offer early evening and weekend cruses. Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits are provided free of charge. Passengers may bring packed lunches or order fish suppers to be delivered to the boats before sailing. The boats are equipped with safety equipment to Department of Transport standards
