Aims:

The aim of the ICP Support organisation is to provide support and research-based information to women who have ICP. They also provide information to health professionals as well as promoting and funding research into the condition.

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), also known as obstetric cholestasis (OC) is the most common liver disorder specific to pregnancy. It affects around 5,500 women each year in the UK and is more common in women of Asian origin. The main symptom is itching which is typically on the hands and feet, but may be anywhere on the body.  It is associated with spontaneous premature labour, fetal distress and, in severe cases, stillbirth. The causes of ICP are not yet fully understood, but involve genetics, environmental and hormone factors.
