Firrhill Day Support and Short Breaks

Provides day support and short breaks to adults with a Learning Disability

Aims:

To provide day support and short breaks to people with Learning Disabilities.

Services provided:

The day support provides a hub which people can access as a meeting point. Staff work with individuals to identify desired outcomes and provide support in achieving these, enabling individuals to fulfil their potential.  There is a strong emphasis on promoting non-buildings based support where possible, accessing community resources that are accessible for the whole community.  The primary Outcome for all our service users is to feel safe and valued within the support they receive and also within their own community.  By participating and engaging in the local and wider community we aim to empower individuals to feel accepted and valued, creating a strong sense of worth, belonging and for some a sense of security.

The short breaks building was built within the Firrhill grounds in 2012 and is a modern purpose built facility for supporting adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) to enable families and carers with the respite they need from their caring role.  We can provide support for up to 8 people from a wider population of around 50.  The overall aim of the service is to offer individuals a safe and caring environment with new opportunities and experiences, whilst building and maintaining friendships.  Service users are actively encouraged to make personal choices, establish relationships, maintain and when appropriate develop independent living skills.
