Free Bowel Health Awareness TalksPicture of a bowel cancer awareness training session

Bowel Cancer UK are running free Bowel Health Awareness Talks. You can book these short talks which are delivered by trained health promotion volunteers, who often have a personal connection to bowel cancer.

Their award-winning programme raises awareness of bowel cancer and highlights key awareness and prevention messages:

Signs and symptoms – groups will learn the key facts about bowel cancer, Scotland’s third most common cancer.

  • Healthy lifestyle and prevention – groups will be guided about how they can reduce their risk, including diet and lifestyle guidelines.
  • NHS Bowel Screening – groups will learn about the NHS bowel screening programme and the importance of taking the test.

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in Scotland, with 1,600 people in Scotland dying each year of the disease and 4,000 people diagnosed. However bowel cancer is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. Nearly everyone diagnosed at the earliest stage will survive bowel cancer but this drops significantly as the disease develops.
