Are there any changes to the benefit system this year?
From April 2017 there are a number of changes being made to the benefits system.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Under 25 £57.90
25 or over £73.10
Work-related activity £29.05
New ESA claimants who are placed in the Work-Related Activity Group will receive the same rate of payment as those claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (ie the personal allowance amount without the additional component) and will be offered extra support to return to work.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Daily Living Component
From 16th of March 2017, the PIP Activities for Managing therapy or Monitoring a health condition and Planning and following a journey are being amended.
Planning and following journeys Activity 1
a Can plan and follow the route of a journey unaided. Score 0
b Needs prompting to be able to undertake any journey to avoid overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant. Score 4
c For reasons other than psychological distress, cannot plan the route of a journey. Score 8
d For reasons other than psychological distress, cannot follow the route of an
unfamiliar journey without another person, assistance dog or orientation aid. Score 10
e Cannot undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming
psychological distress to the claimant. Score 10
f For reasons other than psychological distress, cannot follow the route of a
familiar journey without another person, an assistance dog or an orientation
aid. Score 12
Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
The Benefit Cap
The Benefit Cap won’t apply if either you or your partner get any of the following benefits:
Disability Living Allowance
Personal Independence Payment
Armed Forces Independence Payment
The support component of Employment and Support Allowance
Industrial Injuries Benefit and equivalent payments as part of a war disablement pension or armed forces compensation scheme.
War Widow’s or Widower’s Pension
